Lyceum Classes with Support from HSE: School Students from Uzbekistan Visit HSE University
HSE University has welcomed students of the International House Tashkent Academic Lyceum at TIIAME National Research University, Uzbekistan. The students are participants in the educational project 'Lyceum Classes with Support from HSE,' initiated by the International Admissions Office and implemented since 2022 in collaboration with faculties of HSE University and foreign educational institutions.
This year, the programme was prepared by the Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, Faculty of Economic Sciences, Art and Design School, Graduate School of Business, and International College of Economics and Finance of HSE University.
During the field school, students of the Academic Lyceum visited the educational exhibition at the Faculty of Computer Science and toured HSE University's Pokrovka Complex as part of a campus tour organised by the International Admissions Office. Leading instructors at HSE University conducted interactive lectures and master classes for the participants and shared details of the university's educational programmes.

'When designing this project, we adopted a creative approach from the outset, recognizing that it would be extremely challenging to maintain the participants' interest using only an online format. As we discussed the project concept with colleagues from the Academic Lyceum, we agreed to include face-to-face sessions for students in two formats: intensive courses, where our instructors travel to Tashkent to conduct classes, and field schools, where project participants travel to HSE University.
The project's first field school took place in April 2023. At that time, only two faculties—FCS and WEIA—participated in the admissions campaign from HSE University's side. This year, in addition to the FCS and WEIA, contributors to the field school's programme include the Art and Design School, FES, GSB, and ICEF, and we can confidently assert that not only is there a growing interest in this project from students and their parents, but also increasing involvement from HSE University's faculties, institutes, and schools.'
In addition, the lyceum students visited Moscow's landmark sites, such as Red Square, the Tretyakov Gallery, VDNKh, the Moscow City International Business Centre, the Zoo, and other attractions. They also had the unique opportunity to tour the offices of Russia's two largest companies in the fintech and IT sectors—Tinkoff and VKontakte—where they observed the VK x HSE Data Hack hackathon.

'This second field school in the project has been delivered at the highest level and surpassed all our expectations. In addition to the educational and cultural programme, our students particularly enjoyed the tours of VKontakte and Tinkoff offices.
During the field school, we also had the opportunity to engage in detailed discussions with colleagues regarding the development of our project, and further steps were outlined for its implementation.
Field schools are growing in popularity among our lyceum students, primarily due to the opportunity to experience the role of HSE University students and become acquainted with the university environment. These field trips further motivate students to enrol in HSE University, and we hope that they will continue to be an integral part of the project.'
The 11th graders of the Lyceum became the first participants in the project, with many of them having received recommendations for enrolment and expected to begin their studies at HSE University in September.

'The instructors and staff of the Faculty of Economic Sciences responded with great enthusiasm to the invitation to share their research in the fields of economics and statistics with the students of the International House Tashkent Academic Lyceum. The lyceum students learned about the wide variety of topics explored by the Faculty's economists, spanning from inflation and macroeconomics to behavioural economics and applied health research. The field school participants were particularly interested in topics related to the application of economic analysis to data processing. Such events are beneficial for both applicants and instructors as they provide an opportunity for them to become better acquainted with each other.'

HSE University Signs Memorandum of Intent with the Institute of Legislation and Legal Policy under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan
HSE University and the Institute of Legislation and Legal Policy (ILLP) under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan have signed a memorandum of intent, which will form the basis for a future cooperation agreement. The institute is a state expert research facility created within the framework of the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy. It plays a significant role in the examination of draft laws: an expert opinion from the ILLP is mandatory when considering legislative acts.
Programming & Real Life: Results of the PROD Olympiad
The HSE Cultural Centre recently hosted an awards ceremony for the winners of the PROD Olympiad. This is the first-ever industrial IT-development competition for 9th–11th graders in Russia, organised by HSE University, Tinkoff Bank, and the Central University (Moscow). About 4,000 people from 89 regions of Russia, as well as from Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, China, and Turkmenistan, participated in the qualifying stage, with 43 people emerging as eventual winners.

Over 450 international students from all over the globe currently study at the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences. Some of them have recorded video greetings, talked about celebrations in their home countries, and shared their ideas on how to spend the winter holidays in Russia. ‘It Doesn’t Test, It Teaches’: Hackathon for DANO Data Analysis Olympiad Held in Nizhny Novgorod
A hackathon was held in Nizhny Novgorod for students in grades 9–11 as part of the Data Analysis National Olympiad (DANO). More than 90 school students in grades 9–11 from Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and the surrounding region, St Petersburg, Samara, Cheboksary, and Ufa—a total of 15 Russian regions—took part in the hackathon.
Orientation Sessions for International Students: ‘Being at HSE University Today is a Dream Come True’
HSE University’s Support and Career Centre for International Students and Alumni has held orientation sessions for incoming international students. During the meetings, the centre’s experts explained the visa and migration support available, talked about extracurricular student life, and gave tours of the campus and the city.

Where Languages and Cultures Meet
The Bachelor’s in Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication combines traditional approaches to foreign language teaching with innovative educational practices. The programme has attracted a lot of international students thanks to the opportunity to enrol in the English track and study all its courses in English. From Summer Schools to a Supercomputer: HSE Delegation Visits Uzbekistan
An official HSE University delegation representing all four campuses visited Uzbekistan from October 3–6. HSE managers, teachers and researchers met with their peers from partner universities and government agencies to outline new areas of cooperation, discuss joint projects, programmes, and activities for students, and hold lectures and master classes. Over 7,000 Students Take Part in Data Analysis National Olympiad
Data analysis enthusiasts from different regions of Russia and 13 foreign countries recently took part in the Data Analysis National Olympiad (DANO). The results of the first round will be announced on October 20th.

Applications are underway for the HSE International Olympiad (HSE INTO), which is now available in Russian, English, and French. Winners of this competition can study at HSE University for free.
