HSE University to Teach Russian Language to Students in UAE
HSE University is launching a joint undergraduate programme, ‘Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language,’ in partnership with Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities in Abu Dhabi. This is the first Russian language programme approved by the UAE Ministry of Education.
The bachelor’s programme was developed by the HSE Faculty of Humanities. The programme will last four years and will include summer and winter language schools in Moscow, hosted by HSE University.
The Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language programme aims to promote Russian language and culture while training specialists with competencies in intercultural communication, education, and international relations. The programme will be conducted at Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities in Abu Dhabi, with some specialised courses taught by faculty members from the HSE Faculty of Humanities. The first cohort of 20 students is set to enrol in 2025.
Nikita Anisimov
‘Our joint programme with Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities in the UAE is an example of how academic collaboration helps promote Russian language, culture, and traditions while strengthening mutual understanding between nations. We strive not only to share knowledge but also to create a platform for cultural dialogue, contributing significantly to the development of friendly and partnership relations between Russia and other countries,’ said Nikita Anisimov, Rector of HSE University.
The agreement to launch the programme was signed in the summer of 2024 during a visit to HSE University by Khalifa Mubarak Al Dhaheri, Rector of Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities. This milestone marks a significant step in academic cooperation between Russia and the UAE.
Felix Azhimov
‘This project is very important and exciting for us, as our Faculty of Humanities is venturing into a new niche—training specialists in Russian language and literature at a foreign university. The programme is conducted primarily in Russian from the first year, except for some general education courses. Additionally, this joint double-degree programme not only serves an educational purpose but also plays a crucial role in promoting Russian culture and language abroad,’ emphasised Felix Azhimov, Dean of the HSE Faculty of Humanities.
